“So, uh, how much of that did you hear?” I asked Breanna. The sun was shining on her the right way. She looked like and angel or something like that. Maybe even a goddess. Her hair was sure pretty. It was a nice shade of orange, like an off gold, but more orange. She stood there, leaning on the small building that Sodapop was still inside. She had some other features that I think I should keep to myself, but she was one of the best looking girls I’ve ever seen. None of the Soc girls even came close to Breanna.
“All of it. Well, the part where Johnny asked you if you fancied anyone. And Johnny who the hell says fancy? And I heard the part about me.” She said kind of sheepishly. Breanna was looking down but I could see her huge grin. I think she was trying to hide it. I blew it. She probably thought I was some creepy pervert or something. Or the smile could be a good thing. I had my fingers crossed for it to be a good thing. Johnny instantly stood up
“I’m just going to go try and find Pony. Bye guys!” Johnny spoke so fast and left abruptly. He waved in the distance. I felt small after he left, since he was sitting with me, but I needed to maintain a mainly image while Breanna and I were still alone. So I stood up and mimicked how she was leaning against the discolored bricks.
“So you heard what I said about you...” I trailed off, looking down and kicked a rock as I awaited her reply.
“Yeah, but it was sweet. Or at least I thought so.” Then a car approached the two of us. I couldn’t tell who was driving it but it was someone Breanna must have knew. “That’s my ride. I’ll see you later okay?” With that she trotted off, and hopped into the old rusty car. It must have belonged to a greaser. As long as she was keeping it greased, I guess it was okay for her to be with another guy. It wasn’t like we were dating, so it didn’t have anything to do with me or my opinion. When Breanna and her mysterious friend drove off, Soda finally came outside the building that he had been in for so long.
“I pulled a lot of strings for you man. You better not screw this up. You start tomorrow.” Soda said so casually. This was my first job ever. I had been a soc with everything handed to me. It was time I stepped up and took a leap into manhood I guess. Soda threw a light blue button down shirt with the DX logo on the pocket.
“Thanks Soda! This is great! But don’t you get hot in this shirt?” I wondered. He pointed to his sleeves that were rolled up. I asked a stupid question. But the next question I had wouldn’t be stupid. “So, uh, what exactly do I have to do?”
“We’ll discuss that tomorrow.” Soda told me as Darry in his red pickup truck pulled up to us. I got in, and looked back on the DX as we drove away. I had a bad feeling about this.
